There is much more to Self-Defense than just the physical aspects of the ‘fight’. Physical self-defense tactics should only be used to protect your body, your loved ones, or other people, not your ego. Ego is all about fighting. Self-defense is about fighting back. At Ammo Therapy use aspects of situational awareness, firearms, and hand to hand self defense to help our clients distinguish between what is and is not avoidable. In most confrontations ending in violence, an assailant will usually make a conscious decision to attack based on perceived superiority: physically, tactically, mentally, and emotionally. This assessment stage, prior to attacking a victim, will usually serve as a test for the assailant, as to whether the potential victim will be an easy target.
You must understand that physical self-defense takes an all or nothing mindset. This means that you must be willing do what is necessary to ensure your physical safety. The thought of hurting someone should feel counter-intuitive to most people, but may be an imperative means to an end, if that person is attempting to harm you.
Defense of your physical well being and that of your loved ones is of utmost importance. You must be mentally prepared to deal with the stress of defending yourself, while not allowing yourself to unduly go further than needed, using excessive force.
Here at Ammo Therapy we don't consider ourselves successful until you feel confident in using all of the tools that we provide to you. Our goal is to not only arm you with defensive skills but a mindset that takes your skills to the next level.
I have a steady source of motivation that drives me to wanting to help others feel confident. Most of my adult life I've lived with PTSD due to domestic violence, and have made it a goal to help others avoid what I have been through. I started training in martial arts at age 14, and became a certified Lead XMA instructor through the ATA. I began specializing in combative weapons, weapon retention and leadership development. Although I was teaching martial arts and had received my second degree black belt, I was going home to an extremely abusive situation. I was not fighting back to protect myself at home, because I believed I was not worth fighting for. Eventually, in 2019, I made my escape from abuse. That escape taught me a valuable lesson. It isn't about having the ability to defend yourself, it is about having the proper mindset to do so. over the past few years i became certified as a bodyguard, armed security guard and armed Private investigator. I am now the Training and Operations Director for a private security company and head martial arts instructor in Edmond. My goal is to arm as many DV survivors as possible with firearms, self defense and a positive mindset.
